Welcome to Edmodo
What is Edmodo?
Edmodo is an educational website that takes the ideas of a social network, refines them, and makes it appropriate for a classroom. Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and connect by sharing ideas, problems, and helpful tips. A teacher can assign and grade work on Edmodo, creating a an easy means of communication between teachers, students and parents. Students can also get help from the entire class!
It is a safe environment. There is no bullying or inappropriate content because the teacher can see and control everything that is posted on Edmodo. Also, parents can join the class to bring a level of transparency that is difficult without this technology. Clear communication leads to less confusion, better work and more time to engage in learning in the classroom. Overall, Edmodo will serve as a valuable companion to your / your child's Spanish class.

Getting started
Visit www.edmodo.com and click the "I'm a student" button on the homepage
In the box that appears, enter your personal information (email is optional) and create a username and password of your choosing.
The most important part of this step is entering the correct group code, as indicated by the arrow. The group code is a unique combination of letters and numbers that will place you in the proper class. This code will be given to you during the first week of class and should not be shared with anyone. Furthermore, once everyone has enrolled, the group code will be changed to help ensure privacy.
Once you are done, simply click "Sign up" and you will be brought to your class' homepage!

Key features
From your class homepage, you will have access to a number of tools to help you communicate with your teachers and peers, keep track of assignments and important dates, submit homework and much more! Below you will find just a few of the features that will get you started using Edmodo:
Filters: On your left side of the class homepage, you can "filter" out posts to easily find what you are looking for (Fig. A)
"Latest Posts" - will show you everything that has been written and/or assigned to the class, in chronological order starting with the most
recent.
"Assignments" - will bring up a list of assignments posted by the teacher. These assignments, listed with the due date, can be turned in
online via Edmodo. A file or image may sometimes accompany each assignment so always be sure to carefully read the
directions before completing the work.
"Quizzes" - Another type of assignment that will offer instant feedback on your work.
"Alerts" - Important announcements or reminders about upcoming events in class.
Notifications: On the right side of the class homepage you will find a notifications center (Fig. B) that offers easy access to any information that
directly concerns you. Here you might find notifications regarding new assignments, alerts, grades, etc. Be sure to check often!
Calendar: On the top of the page, next to the search bar, you will find the calendar for our class (Fig. C). The calendar offers a easy-to-read view
of all upcoming assignments, tests, quizzes, and events in our class. When applicable, clicking on an assignment will bring you to page
in which you can view and submit the work. Note: assignments that are to be turned in during class will appear as "events" and must
be brought to class to be checked and reviewed on the day they are due.
Parent Code: I invite all parents to join our Edmodo learning community. Just as your student signed up to join our class, you too can create an
account and have access to all of your student's online activity (assignments, calendar, alerts, grades, etc...). Furthermore, you can
select to be notified (via e-mail or text message) of such activity. To sign up, logon to www.edmodo.com and click "Parent Sign-up".
Enter your information as well as the parent code (Fig. D) which can be found on the right column of your child's class page.
Each code is unique and will give you access to your individual student's page!
Aside from the tools listed above, there are a host of features that will aid our class during the year. I encourage you to visit the links below for a more
in-depth guide to using Edmodo. ¡Buena suerte!
